Conclusion
The three Davis County,
Utah, Senior Citizen Centers will benefit from increasing the multi-cultural
understanding of both employees and volunteers. Then they will have the tools to increase the racial and ethnic diversity
of the patrons of the Centers while being considerate of the older white people who currently use the Centers. This would
be an inclusiveness that should help the staffs of the centers to serve more clients, be more culturally sensitive, become
more innovative and reach more effectively into their communities. These goals are already mandated by the Older American’s
Act (1965). The impact of becoming more multi-cultural in the centers will, of course, need to be measured and guided by the
plan that the Davis County Aging Services creates in conjunction with Utah
State mandates.
Further research will be
needed to guide, in more detail, the overall plan for creating a more multi-cultural inclusiveness. This paper constitutes
only the beginning of the effort to create the plan and is not exhaustive or complete. At this time there is no known reason
that would prohibit the centers from becoming more inclusive, though the reality of budget constraints may slow down implementation
of the plan.
